The Almohads were a Berber dynasty that replaced the Almoravids in the 12th century. They ruled Morocco, North Africa, and much of Islamic Spain. They promoted a strict but reformist Islamic theology.
They won major victories against Christian kingdoms but were defeated at Las Navas de Tolosa in 1212. Their empire fragmented in the 13th century. The Marinids and Hafsids took over.
