Mycenaean Greece

Mycenaean Greece was a Bronze Age civilization centered on fortified palaces like Mycenae and Pylos. It flourished from about 1600 to 1100 BCE and left behind Linear B records, massive walls, and rich shaft graves. Its warriors and trade contacts inspired later Greek legends.

The palaces collapsed around 1200 BCE during the wider Bronze Age collapse. Mycenaean power faded, writing disappeared, and Greece entered a dark age. Later Greeks remembered the era through myths of Troy and Agamemnon.
