The Dacians

The Dacians were a powerful Thracian people in modern Romania and Moldova. They built fortified mountain settlements and resisted Roman expansion under kings like Burebista and Decebalus. Their gold and silver wealth attracted Rome.

Trajan conquered Dacia in 101 to 106 CE and made it a province. Rome later abandoned it, leaving it to Goths, Huns, and others. Dacian memory survived in Romanian national history.
