The Crown of Aragon was a Mediterranean trading power based in eastern Iberia. It included Catalonia, Valencia, and later Sicily, Sardinia, and Naples. Its merchants and navy dominated western Mediterranean trade.
Aragon united with Castile in the late 15th century. It retained its own laws and institutions for a time. Its Mediterranean empire later became part of a larger Spanish monarchy.
