The Kingdom of England (Anglo-Saxon & Norman)

Anglo-Saxon England formed after Germanic settlers took over post-Roman Britain. It became a wealthy Christian kingdom with shires, kings, and Old English culture. In 1066, William of Normandy conquered it.

The Norman Conquest replaced the elite and introduced feudalism and French influence. England remained a powerful medieval kingdom. Its legal and political institutions slowly evolved toward common law and parliament.
