The Kingdom of Hungary was founded around 1000 by Stephen I. It became a powerful medieval state in Central Europe. It adopted Christianity and controlled lands from the Carpathians to the Adriatic.
Hungary was devastated by the Mongol invasion in 1241 and later by Ottoman wars. It was divided after the Battle of Mohacs in 1526. The Habsburgs eventually took control.
