The Reconquista was the centuries-long Christian campaign to retake Iberia from Muslim rule. It began soon after the Muslim conquest of 711 and lasted until 1492. Kingdoms like Leon, Castile, Aragon, and Portugal led the effort.
The fall of Granada in 1492 ended Muslim political power in Iberia. Jews and Muslims were then forced to convert or leave. The Reconquista shaped Spanish and Portuguese identity and overseas expansion.
