New France

New France was the French colonial empire in North America. It included Quebec, the Great Lakes, the Mississippi Valley, and Louisiana. It was based on fur trade and alliances with indigenous nations.

Britain conquered New France in the Seven Years' War, confirmed by the Treaty of Paris in 1763. France kept only small islands. French culture survived in Quebec and Louisiana.
