The Aymara Kingdoms

The Aymara kingdoms were a group of powerful states around Lake Titicaca after the fall of Tiwanaku. They flourished from about 1150 to 1450 CE. They were known for military organization, agriculture, and fortified hilltop towns.

The Inca Empire conquered most of them in the 15th century. Their language and culture survived under Inca and later Spanish rule. They remain a major indigenous group in Bolivia and Peru.
