The Viceroyalty of Río de la Plata

The Viceroyalty of Río de la Plata was a Spanish colony covering modern Argentina, Uruguay, Paraguay, and Bolivia. It was created in 1776 with its capital at Buenos Aires. It was important for silver from Potosí and cattle products.

It broke away during the Napoleonic wars. The May Revolution of 1810 began independence. It then fragmented into several countries.
