Great Britain united England and Scotland in 1707 and became a global power. It built the largest empire in history through trade, colonies, and naval strength. The Industrial Revolution began there in the late 18th century.
Britain defeated Napoleon and later dominated world finance and shipping. Its empire covered India, Canada, Australia, and much of Africa. Decolonization after World War II ended most of it.
