The Ottoman Balkans were the European provinces of the Ottoman Empire. They included Greece, Bulgaria, Serbia, Bosnia, and Romania. Ottoman rule brought Islam, new administration, and long periods of conflict.
Nationalist revolts in the 19th century broke the region into independent states. The Balkan Wars of 1912 to 1913 further reduced Ottoman control. World War I ended Ottoman power in Europe.
